Hometown Veteran Ambassador
Imagine knowing of, or seeing a veteran and their family struggling. Yet, you do not approach them because you do not know what to say, what to do to help, or where you might be able to help them find a resource solution to their struggles.
What if there was a program that could give you insight to identify struggling "veterans"/families, provide you knowledge on how to comfortably communicate, and empower you to help connect them to someone/resources that can let them know they are cared about and welcome within their hometown community?
What if there was a program that could help you become an ambassador of good will and community healing?
Would you take the time to learn from a manual and workshops designed to bring comfort and healing to you and your neighbor?
Would you be willing to perform outreach of connecting and welcoming others into an atmosphere of a hometown that cares?
Hidden Wounds of WarPhotography by Linnea Lenkus
Each one of these families I photographed has a story of strength and courage that’s hard to put into words, so I set out to capture them visually. I was amazed and moved deeply to get to know a group of people who too often are associated only with war, and unfortunately, with politics. I saw and experienced them as people who proudly and dutifully serve our country when called upon to do so. This incredible father of three girls has served in the Marines for 18 years and he’s been deployed seven times. While serving on his fourth deployment in Iraq, he was hit by a improvised explosive device that left him deaf in one ear. He has since been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury – medical conditions often referred to as the “hidden wounds of war.” His family demonstrated to me how they felt when he left home and how isolated from them he has felt.“photography used with permission from Linnea Lenkus Fine Art Portrait Studios” |
