Veteran Support Network -WAC Military OutreachEvents with VSN
VSN - From War-front to Home-front Helping Veterans Heal"Depression. Post-traumatic stress disorder. Suicide. Divorce. Drug and alcohol abuse. These are some of the very real problems faced by our service men and women and their families on return from active duty. The workshops, which are open to both clergy and laity, aim to educate people about military and veteran culture, clinical concerns, moral/spiritual issues , and local resources and veterans’ benefits."
"Almost 30% of the population in Washington State is made up of veterans and their families." "Most Veterans now receive warrior transition training before returning home from combat. However, that training is only an introduction and without community follow-up does not address the long-term adjustments Veterans and their families face at home." "Even though there are many government and private programs available to our Veterans, finding those resources can be difficult." “In addition to providing crucial spiritual support, our faith communities can learn how to be a liaison between Veterans and the available resources for healing,” said Chaplain Tim Loney, a coordinator of the Veterans Support Network. “By training clergy and lay leaders in local faith communities on the issues faced by our Veterans and the resources that are available to them, we can work together to provide essential outreach to Veterans and their families as they adapt to life after combat.” "Resource people for the training include active duty, retired and reserve military personnel, as well as clinicians, outreach specialists, and chaplains. The trainings are ecumenical and inter-faith, and open to all who want to help support our Veterans through their faith community." "The Veterans Support Network is a project of the Washington Association of Churches, in partnership with the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs and the United Church of Christ, Pacific Northwest Conference."
